  7. FreeDVD is an easy to use completely FREE DVD Player for Windows.
  8. You can playback almost any DVD and it works with just about all
  9. DVD Drives.

  17. Installation (Win95/98/ME/NT/2000):

  20. Before you begin installation, please make sure that you have the latest
  21. version of Direct X installed on your system. Otherwise, FreeDVD will not
  22. run properly.
  23.  
  24. 1. Run Setup.exe from the directory where you extracted the files
  25. and follow the instructions.

  27. 2. Restart your computer.

  30. Uninstalling FreeDVD:
  31. ---------------------

  33. If you wish to uninstall FreeDVD goto Add/Remove programs on your
  34. Control Panel and select FreeDVD in the installed programs list.

  36. Click the Add/Remove button.

  39. IMPORTANT: Make sure that you have DMA enabled for you DVD drive.
  40. Otherwise DVD playback will be slow and choppy. If DVD playback is
  41. slow, follow the steps below.

  44. Enabling DMA:
  45. -------------

  47. 1. Click on the 'Start' button
  48.  
  49. 2. Select 'Settings' -> 'Control Panel'
  50.  
  51. 3. Now double-click the 'System' icon
  52.  
  53. 4. Select the 'Device Manager' Tab
  54.  
  55. 5. Select the [+] next to CD-ROM and you will see your DVD drive
  56.    appear in the list. Double-click that drive. A properties window
  57.    will appear.
  58.  
  59. 6. Next select the 'Settings' Tab and check the box labeled DMA. If
  60.    the box is checked, DMA is enabled. If it is unchecked, you need
  61.    to check it now.

  63. 7. Click 'OK' and restart your computer so that the changes can take
  64.    effect.

  67. Common Errors and Fixes:

  69. Failed to locate IDVDInfo2 or IDVDControl2 interface you may have an out 
  70. of date component. Please upgrade to newer version of Dshow.

  74. You need to update your version of Direct X to the latest version.
  75. You can do this by going to http://www.microsoft.com/directx and downloading
  76. the current version. When it is installed the components should be updated
  77. on your system and the problem should be fixed.
